SUMMARY:Observing Bats: AGM Diplicate Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Lilliana Ortega \nThis is an evening field trip to McArthur Island Park. We will be starting in the butterfly garden and plan to spend two hours at the park observing key bat-habitat features and discussing the lives of bats in BC. There is a high likelihood that we will be able to spot bats hunting in the area and identify their species through acoustic monitoring. The walk will mostly be on paved paths but be sure to bring comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather; there will be mosquitoes! You can bring water\, snacks\, a headlamp/handheld lamp\, and all of your bat questions!

SUMMARY:Birds and Turtles of Pineview: AGM Duplicate Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Bill Gilroy \nMeet at Python Lake. Parking available on the street. \nWe will be exploring the Pineview Nature Park-Python Lake area\, which is an interesting urban-nature interface. We will spend approximately 1.5 hours there\, observing a rich and abundant variety of birds and other wildlife. This is a popular birding “hotspot” that offers excellent photographic opportunities. Highlights include observing many wetland/riparian-dwelling species\, including various waterfowl\, yellow-headed and red-winged blackbirds and both sora and Virginia rails. Western painted turtles are also frequently observed. The level of difficulty is easy. Dress for the weather conditions. Wear comfortable walking shoes\, bring water\, binoculars and especially your camera!

SUMMARY:KNC May General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Burrowing Owls \nPresenter: Dawn Brodie \nPresentation Description \nAfter “retirement” in 2014 an opportunity arose with the Upper Nicola Band to set up a Burrowing Owl Reintroduction site. The Upper Nicola Band Burrowing Owl Reintroduction Program is now in the 10th year. Since 2016 the Band has supported this program as part of their Species at Risk program. Along with my co-worker Loretta Holmes\, we have found this program a rewarding experience and an honour to participate. The Band\, Chief and community welcome the owls at the annual release with prayer\, drumming and song. Chief Daniel Manuel stated: “The Nation is honoured to be an important part of establishing a self-perpetuating population of sq̓əq̓iwɬʷ (Burrowing Owl) on our traditional lands and reversing the decline of Burrowing Owls in BC and Canada. \nDawn Brodie has worked for over 30 years to help conserve Burrowing Owl populations in British Columbia.  Domestic livestock (cattle\, sheep and a few hundred racoons…another story) were an important part of Dawn’s life and as a registered Animal Health Technologist\, their health and welfare were a priority.
