At the top of Baldy Mountain at about 7400 feet, we spotted a family of ptarmigan.   The hen hustled the chicks off to cover in the fell fields while the male kept an eye on us.   The bird’s camouflage makes it hard to spot,  so we had to be quiet and watchful in the alpine meadows.
