Movie: The Little Things That Run the World
Documentary and panel explore how losing insects threatens our own future
The documentary is being shown Wednesday, March 25, at the TRU Clocktower Alumni Theatre
Discover how the dramatic decline of insects around the planet can severely affect whole ecosystems and species, at a free film and panel discussion hosted by the Kamloops Naturalist Club.
The Little Things that Run the World is a documentary about the decline of insects around the planet and the major impacts that has. It literally is the butterfly effect.

The smallest of creatures – insects – weave together the fabric of all life on our planet. And as Earth undergoes dramatic change due to climate, pollution and other factors, insects are diminishing, threatening innumerable species, whole ecosystems and our food sources.
This documentary untangles the mysteries as to why something so ubiquitous – and seemingly endless – could be on the cusp of disappearing entirely. And it is the story of heroic efforts to save these most vulnerable of creatures.
The film is followed by a panel discussion featuring native bee advocate and author Elaine Sedgman, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) entomologist Rob Higgins and master gardener Megan Renee Blackwell.
This presentation is part of the Films for Change series at Thompson Rivers University. Films for Change is a community inspired film series showing films of positive and inspiring content related to sustainability, with the intention of bringing together the Kamloops community to connect and raise awareness while sharing the desire to make a difference.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to help with costs.
Popcorn will be available. Please note no drinks except water are allowed in the theatre.
