May 2. Jane Jacobs-inspired walk led by Jesse Ritcey.
For questions contact Jesse Ritcey, jesse@naturekamloops.ca
6:00 PM – 7:30 PM SIDEWALKS AND SWALES IN BROCK
Walk Start & End Location: Windbreak St in front of the Kamloops Free Methodist Church
Walk Description: This walk invites participants to experience how much the presence of basic infrastructure changes the experience for pedestrians. Older areas of Kamloops are often lacking in infrastructure, as they were built up before developments were required to include it. We will walk down streets with and without sidewalks, as well as look at how storm water/spring snow melt is addressed, and how traffic calming measures by Brock Secondary School improve safety. This will be a flat, gently paced walk. Sun protection and water are advisable. Please note the nearest washroom is at Brock Shopping Centre Tim Hortons. The walk can be reached easily via transit or parking is available at the school.
Jane’s Walk – This worldwide event features a series of Jane Jacobs– inspired walks, sponsored locally by the Propolis Group. The weekend will conclude with a film at the Paramount Theatre about Jane Jacobs and the purpose behind these walks.
