Meet at 10 am Upper Skyline Nature Park

Parking both sides of Bentall Drive near the EDINBURGH sign and 2659 Bentall Drive (just past Willowbrae Drive. Please don’t block the mailboxes. GoogleMaps link:

Visit two ecosystems in Aberdeen Neighbourhood.      Estimated TOTAL time 1 ½ -2 hours

Mid Bunchgrass Trail: Bentall Drive to Grasslands info board

 This trail will take us first downhill, past examples of engineered hillside vs natural grasslands, into a grassland area with lovely views

1.11 km  loop            ascent 45m               30 min. return

You may end your walk here, or continue uphill:

Upper Bunchgrass Trail: Bentall Drive to Causeway junction

            This trail will take us into Douglas-fir forest with an understory of pine grass and saskatoon. Before turning onto switchbacks of Causeway trail, a short out-and-back walk will take us to open grassland accentuated with aspen groves and wild roses.

 There are two options:

1.Out-and-back trail through the forest to the junction of Causeway trail & back

O.55 km one way (1.1 km return)        ascent 30m                    25 min. return

2.Add on Causeway loop trail (gentle switchbacks uphill and downhill), to return to the cars.

1.45 km returning on Causeway (2 km return)    ascent 82m        35-45 min.

This walk is “easy to moderate” in difficulty. Note that there are some steep and uneven sections. Good footwear is a must! Hiking poles and binoculars are recommended.

The trip is subject to cancellation if the weather is rainy (as the trails may be slippery when wet).

Non club members are welcome to attend, but must sign a waiver and pay $1 fee to cover insurance.
