Join Us for a Day With Frank Ritcey
A field trip followed by an evening presentation on Saturday, March 16.
The field Trip: We will meet at the parking lot just past the cattleguard in Batchelor Heights on the road to Lac du Bois. We meet at 8:45 and we can carpool from there and the convoy will leave at 9:00am precisely. We’ll park up at Lac du Bois and hike from there. Stout hiking shoes, a lunch, and a sense of adventure should be brought along with your normal list of outdoor gear. No dogs please.
The presentation: Room S203 in the TRU science building, 7:00 pm.
With great weather ahead, it is an excellent time to go out for a nature hike. There will be a longish walk on Saturday, March 16th, about 6.5 km in total but may be a bit longer or shorter depending upon the group.
The hike will take us alongside Lac du Bois and our trip leader Frank Ritcey, will point out the various features that make this such a rich habitat for so much wildlife. It’ll also be good chance to check up on turtle nesting sites, listen for grouse drumming, and work on your tracking skills.
As this is an out and back trip you are free to cut the hike short if you feel it is getting too much for you (or you can’t bear to look at yet another “interesting thing” that gets pointed out along the walk).
We should be back to the vehicles by 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon.
Later that evening we can join Frank for a screening of his recently completed documentary about Jerry the Moose and the early days of wildlife research in Wells Gray Provincial Park. The film utilizes clips from 12,000 feet of 16mm film that was shot by Bob Miller back in the mid 50’s to early 60s.
My wife and I would like to come on the hike on Saturday, March 16. We are not members of the Naturalist Club. Will we be able to pay the temporary membership fee at the hike?
