Mountain Bluebird male birdphotography.com

While out at Separation Lake we saw a lot of bluebirds hovering above the grassy areas and then landing. There were some female bluebirds on the ground and it seemed too cold for insects to be out. Being a newbie to the bird world, would this have been foraging or courtship behaviour?
