This is the annual KNC tradition of visiting Greenstone Mountain to see birds and alpine flowers. Expert as well as beginner birders are welcome.  Attached is the list of birds compiled by Glenn Dreger. Also attached is a list of plants found on Greenstone.

In order to avoid a long line of vehicles parking on the Greenstone Mountain road, carpooling is encouraged.  If you are a passenger, please offer to pay the driver for a portion of the gas. It is unknown how long the trip will be.  Those wishing to return early should plan to drive themselves and offer to take passengers who may also need to return early.

The trip involves stops on a good gravel road suitable for regular cars. The road runs right to the top of the mountain (elevation 1,799 m). We will have lunch at the end of the trip at the top of the mountain and enjoy the view. The trip involves very little walking as the road passes right beside several lakes for birding and flower identification. A wide variety of flowers can be seen at our favorite stop approximately 20 km from the bottom of the road.

There is no need to register in advance. Non-club members will be asked to sign a day trip assumption of risk form and pay $1 to cover insurance. Bring a lunch, plenty of water, and warm clothing as the weather at the top of Greenstone Mountain can be variable. Also bring binoculars, field guides, and a camera. Don’t’ forget the bug spray!
